Michael DeGroat, Minot, sentenced for possession of stolen property

Michael Edward DeGroat, 50, Minot, will serve 60 days in jail for being in possession of a stolen 2001 Ford F150 on Nov. 25, 2017 and for bail jumping.

DeGroat entered an Alford plea to the Class C felony possession of stolen property charge and pleaded guilty to bail jumping on Tuesday, court records show. For both charges, Judge Gary Lee sentenced him to 360 days in jail, with a requirement that he serve 60 days, and gave him credit for seven days already served in jail and one day of good time. The offenses will be deemed Class A misdemeanors if DeGroat successfully completes probation. Restitution in the case is reserved for 90 days. DeGroat was ordered to pay $125 in court costs on the bail jumping charge. DeGroat was ordered to report to the Ward County Jail on Jan. 2, 2019, to begin serving his sentence.

The state dismissed a Class C felony possession of stolen property charge against Michelle Morin, who had been charged as a co-defendant with DeGroat, in January.
