Donovan Womack, Minot, sentenced to prison for reckless endangerment

Donovan Dale Womack, 21, Minot, will serve about two years in prison for firing three shots into the ground in a park near the softball fields at 700 16th Avenue SE in Minot on July 30.

Womack pleaded guilty to Class C felony reckless endangerment and Class C felony prohibited possession of a firearm by a felon in district court on Wednesday. The state dropped a Class C felony possession of drug paraphernalia charge and a misdemeanor charge of driving with a suspended driver’s license against Womack.

Judge Stacy Louser sentenced him to five years in prison for each charge, with a requirement that he serve two years, and three years of supervised probation. The sentences are concurrent. The firearm was ordered to be destroyed. Womack was also ordered to pay court costs. He will receive credit for about 24 days already served in prison.

According to the probable cause affidavit filed with the court, Womack had had an argument with his girlfriend and was upset. After he got a call from the girlfriend, he climbed on the picnic table, fired three shots into the ground, and then fled the area. There were children playing in the area and other people around at the time. He was later located and detained. A witness identified Womack from the distinctive tattoo of pursed lips on his neck.

Louser suggested that Womack take an anger management class and Womack agreed.

Womack was taken into custody in the courtroom following his sentencing.
