Brenden McCloud, Minot, sentenced to time served for corruption of a minor

Brenden Loren McCloud, 22, Minot, originally charged with Class A felony gross sexual imposition, pleaded guilty Wednesday to a reduced charge of Class C felony corruption of a minor.

McCloud had sex with a 14-year-old girl on a picnic table at a park on Nov. 26, 2017. The girl had met him on Snapchat and thought he was 18 and a high school senior. McCloud was actually 21 at the time. The girl later told police that she had indicated through her body language that she wasn’t interested in having sex and later tried to push him off of her.

Under the terms of a plea deal, McCloud was given a one year jail sentence, all suspended but the 82 days he already served, and five years of supervised probation. He will also be required to register as a sex offender. Judge Stacy Louser also ordered him to stay away from the girl and to pay $525 in court costs.

Ward County Deputy State’s Attorney Kelly Dillon told the judge that the girl’s father called McCloud’s actions “a bad decision” and a “horrible mistake.” However, the father told her that his daughter is moving on with her life and he wants McCloud to have the same opportunity.

Louser told McCloud that the charge has been reduced, but his life will be altered by the conditions of his sentence going forward.
