Minot Camera Club kicks off the season

Submitted Photo Brandy Banken, Minot, received first place for her piece titled “The Final Cruise” in Digital Altered Reality.

The Minot Camera Club has begun its 2018-19 season with their first rounds of competitions and meetings. The club meets twice a month from September to May on the first and third Mondays. This year, though, the club has brought in a new meeting and competition format for members.

In previous seasons, all members met and competed against one another, whether new to the photography scene or more advanced. Now the club is giving a try at splitting the members into one of two groups according to their skills to compete on a more fair level.

“Newer members were feeling intimidated by the quality of work by other members,” explained Betty Nordstrom, a member of the club.

With the new format, members will either meet the first Monday of a month if they are placed in Class B, the amateur group, or meet the third Monday as Class A, the experienced group.

For their first meetings and competitions, Class B held winners Kathryn Debertin of Berthold with her “Unicorn Transportation” in the color competition and “Landing a Dream” in Monochrome.

Submitted Photo Tony Meiers, Minot, won first place in the Digital Monochrome competition for his piece titled “Wagon.”

Class A had Erich Linser of Minot winning the Color competition with “Sunset Interrupted” and the Monochrome competition with “There’s Always a Wild Side.” Betty Nordstrom of Minot received first place in Altered Reality Print with her piece “Fort Abreast to Perfection.”

For the Digital Competition for Class A, Tony Meiers of Minot received first place in Color with “Transportation” and in Monochrome with “Wagon.” Altered Reality was won by Brandy Banken of Minot with her piece “The Final Cruise”.

Other members that placed included Tim Zeltinger of Glenburn, Richard Debertin of Berthold, and Brandy Banken of Minot.

The Minot Camera Club is always open to new members.

“Anybody can come, just come to the meetings,” said Nordstrom.

Submitted Photo For the Print Altered Reality, Betty Nordstrom won the first place title for her piece “Four Abreast to Perfection.”

They meetings take place on the first and third Monday of each month until May at 7 p.m. in the lower meeting room in the Minot Public Library.

The season ends in May with a banquet to celebrate the year-end winners.
