Michael Schell sentenced for stealing brass caps from Housing Authority

Michael Earl Schell, 29, Minot, received a two year suspended sentence and two years of supervised probation for removing brass sprinkler caps from pipes at the Minot Housing Authority on Nov. 18, 2017. Schell later sold the brass caps for $40.30 to Continental Metals. The cost of replacing the caps would have been $1,802.85, according to the affidavit. The brass caps were returned to the Minot Housing Authority. Restitution is reserved for 90 days. Schell must also pay $525 in court costs. He will receive credit for 59 days already served in jail.

Schell pleaded guilty to the Class C felony theft of property charge on Wednesday in district court in Minot.

Schell also pleaded guilty on Tuesday to fleeing from a police officer after a traffic stop in February, a Class A misdemeanor, and was ordered to pay $325 in court costs.
