Travis Larson, Minot, sentenced on amended charge of child neglect
Travis Joel Larson, 40, originally charged with Class C felony sexual assault, pleaded guilty to an amended charge of Class C felony child neglect on Friday in district court in Minot.
Under the terms of a plea agreement with the state, Larson was given a one year and one day jail sentence, all suspended, and three years of supervised probation. He has already completed the chemical dependency and psychological evaluations required under the agreement. North Central District Court Judge Todd Cresap also ordered Larson to stay away from the victim in the case, who was 17 at the time of the crime, and to pay court costs.
According to the probable cause affidavit that was filed in the case, Larson went into the boy’s room on June 20, 2017, and touched the boy intimately. He told the boy “it would be our secret.” A witness overheard groaning coming from the room and found Larson, who was unclothed from the waist down, lying on the bed with the boy. The witness yelled at Larson and told the boy to leave the room. The witness said the boy was in tears.
In court on Friday, Larson told the judge he remembers nothing about the incident. He was drunk at the time, according to the affidavit. Larson said he feels bad about what happened and has done his best to try to make it right. Larson said he has been attending counseling.
The victim, who is now an adult, is not one of Larson’s immediate family members.
