David Bad Brave, New Town, charged with assaulting police officer

David Bad Brave, 33, of New Town, is accused of assaulting a police officer while he was being booked into the Ward County Jail after he had resisted arrest in the parking lot at the Minot Walmart on Saturday afternoon, according to Minot police.

Police were responding to a report that Bad Brave was driving in a vehicle in the store parking lot.

Bad Brave also had multiple outstanding warrants from Burleigh County and from the Mandan Police Department. According to Minot police, he resisted and fought with officers when they placed him under arrest. Once they took him into custody, he was taken to the Ward County Jail and he assaulted the arresting officer. Bad Brave is charged with simple assault on a police officer, a Class C felony and a Class A misdemeanor charge of preventing arrest.

In court on Monday, a prosecutor said Bad Brave has past convictions for domestic violence and for failure to register as an offender against children.

Bad Brave told the judge he wanted to be released on a personal recognizance bond so he could deal with pending matters in Burleigh County and consult with a psychiatrist about getting back on his medication. Judge Todd Cresap told Bad Brave to inform the jailers of his medical needs. Cresap set bond at $7,500, with a requirement that Bad Brave post 10 percent of that.
