Bob Wefald receives Defense Department honor

FARGO – Bob Wefald, past North Dakota Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve chairman, was the recipient of the Department of Defense’s Seven Seals Award, the broadest and most exclusive award given by ESGR.

The award was presented during a luncheon sponsored by the North Dakota Navy League held at the Fargo Ramada Inn on July 23. It was presented by Delton Steele, N.D. State ESGR Chair, and is given at his discretion.

Wefald, of Bismarck, graduated from Minot High School. Before his retirement on Dec. 31, 2010, he served 12 years as a state district court judge and four years as N.D. attorney general. He served for 27 years in the Navy Reserve.

The Seven Seals Award is presented in recognition of significant individual or organizational achievement, initiative, or support that promotes and supports the ESGR mission, to include the efforts of the more than 4,500 volunteers who carry out ESGR’s mission across the nation on a daily basis.

Wefald served as ESGR state chair from 2012 to 2018. He first became a member of ESGR in 1972 and served in various capacities over the years including as an ombudsman.

“The Seven Seals award recognizes outstanding individual or organizational contributions to the mission of The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve,” said Steele. “It was an honor to recognize Bob for his many years of outstanding service to the ESGR mission and dedicated service to ESGR in North Dakota.”
