NDDOT offers tips for citizens when using driver’s license services
The North Dakota Department of Transportation Driver’s License Division is experiencing a busy summer as many students are taking driving tests.
Other factors in the upswing in business may include residents updating their license before voting and the new issuance of REAL IDs. Due to these factors and others the wait time at offices may increase. To try to keep up with demand, many driver’s license locations are providing service beyond regularly scheduled hours. Staff have been staying into the evening and working on weekends to provide testing and the NDDOT is continuing to explore long-term improvements and solutions.
NDDOT has implemented several tools to help people conduct business online:
– Standard driver’s licenses can be renewed online. This is not applicable to REAL IDs. Those who would like to simply renew their standard driver’s license, can do so online: https://apps.nd.gov/dot/dlts/dlos/renewal/welcome.htm. The license is mailed within 10 days. As a reminder, drivers may renew their license 10 months in advance of the expiration date.
– Schedule service online: https://www.dot.nd.gov/divisions/driverslicense/driver.htm. Schedule a driving test, issue of REAL ID, license renewal/replacement, etc. Scheduling an appointment will greatly reduce wait time at the office.
– Check the wait times prior to coming into the office: https://www.dot.nd.gov/dotnet2/view/WaitTimes.aspx. Wait times at the main office locations are online.
