Minot man gets probation, suspended sentence, for choking girlfriend

A 27-year-old Minot man was given a one year suspended sentence and two years of supervised probation for choking his girlfriend and refusing to allow her to leave a residence on May 5.

Levi Leonard Heil pleaded guilty Wednesday in district court in Minot to Class C felony aggravated assault, according to court records.

Judge Todd Cresap sentenced him to a year in jail, with all time suspended except for the 36 days he has already served, and probation. If he successfully completes probation, the charge will appear on his record as a Class A misdemeanor. Heil was also ordered to pay $1,100 in court costs.
