From Minot AFB airman to renown financial expert

Thirty-six years ago, Charles Payne arrived at Minot Air Force Base for his first military assignment. Today, Payne is host of the Fox Business Network’s successful “Making Money with Charles Payne” show.

Brian Jones, president of the network, announced this week that Payne has re-signed a multi-year contract with Fox Business Network. Jones said the show is the number one program in its timeslot. The show launched in 2014.

“I am proud to be a part of the best lineup in business television, and excited to continue helping to empower all Americans take control of their financial destiny and identify money-making opportunities in this incredible time of economic growth,” said Payne in a news release issued Wednesday.

Payne also frequently appears on Fox News Channel.

After basic training and security forces training at Lackland AFB, Texas, Payne, who was born in New York, was assigned to Minot AFB in the spring of 1981. He was assigned to missile security forces, a job entailing going to the Minot missile field and spending three days and three nights there.

In an interview with the Minot Daily News in 2014, he said he started reading news magazines at the missile alert facility and became a proficient reader. His goal was to get an education while in the military. While living in the barracks at Minot AFB he attended Minot State University and later Central Texas College. After the military he headed to Wall Street and began his career there as an analyst at E.F. Hutton in 1985. He joined Fox about a decade ago.

Payne said in the Minot Daily News interview that he believes people can make their dreams and goals come true.
