Former teacher pleads guilty to sexual assault
BOTTINEAU A former Bottineau High School science teacher accused of having sexual contact with 17- and 15-year-old boys last year pleaded guilty Thursday to reduced charges.
Marissa Ashley DesLauriers, 24, pleaded guilty to two Class A misdemeanor charges of contributing to the deprivation of a minor and two counts of Class B misdemeanor sexual assault. She will serve about seven weeks in jail for the charges and will be placed on unsupervised probation for three years, according to the clerk of district court. DesLauriers will not be required to register as a sex offender.
Two Class C felony sexual assault charges against DesLauriers were dismissed and charges in another case were reduced to misdemeanors.
Northeast District Court Judge Lee Christofferson sentenced DesLauriers on Thursday to one year in jail, with all except seven weeks suspended, for the corruption charges and one year in jail, with all time suspended except for seven weeks, on the assault charges. The sentences will be served concurrently. DesLauriers will serve her sentence in one week increments at the Rugby Correctional Center over the next year. DesLauriers was also ordered to stay away from the victims for three years and to follow recommendations for counseling.
DesLauriers’ license to teach has been revoked, according to the clerk of court. DesLauriers is employed elsewhere and is no longer living in the Bottineau area.
DesLauriers was charged with the crimes last December.
