Ex-Walmart worker gets little discount on jail time

A former Walmart employee was sentenced to two years of supervised probation Tuesday for stealing a woman’s credit card last year and making unauthorized purchases at McDonald’s and Walmart in Minot, according to court records.

Jerron Kernell Gray, 28, now of West Fargo, changed his plea to guilty in North Central District Court in Minot.

Judge Todd Cresap also ordered Gray to pay $1,145.82 in restitution and another $1,100 in court costs. He was sentenced to one year in prison, with all that time suspended except for the one day he already spent in jail. If he successfully completes probation, the Class C felony theft charge will appear as a misdemeanor on his record.

According to court documents, Gray stole a credit card from a woman on April 18, 2015. He then used it to buy an iPad Air and a PS4 game system from his former employer, Walmart of Minot. He was identified after Walmart officials viewed store surveillance video and recognized Gray as the man who made the purchases. Gray also purchased a meal at McDonald’s in Minot using the stolen credit card.

A Class C felony carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
