Minot on map for Nitro Circus show

Direct from sold-out shows across the world, Travis Pastrana’s Nitro Circus Live will visit Minot for the first time when it returns to North America for a 40-city tour starting in April.

Nate Adams is a champion FMX rider with multiple records and numerous trophies to his credit, and will show his skills as part of the show. One of Adams’ record-breaking world’s first achievements includes the first no-hand back flip to no-hand land, which he didn’t even plan on executing.

“It was something I did at a contest,” said Adams. “I needed something in that moment to win if I don’t switch up my run.”

In all, Adams has earned 22 X Games medals, including five golds he considers his 2004 win a “breakthrough moment.” He is also the first athlete to win the X Fighters championship two years in a row.

Adams has had to overcome numerous injuries to get to where he is today, most notably a broken femur and knee in 2004 and a dislocated shoulder that resulted in nerve damage in 2011. Both kept Adams off his bike for almost a year and required physical therapy and training in order to return. He also estimates having 20 to 30 concussions throughout his career.

“If I have a concussion, I take the necessary precautions,” said Adams. “You can have your ACL repaired, not your mind.” Despite these roadblocks, Adams and the company’s spirits remain high. “We’re entertainers, not just athletes,” Adams said. “We love what we do.”

The economic impact the tour will generate also means Minot businesses can anticipate a major boost with the influx of people in town, according to Nitro Circus CEO Michael Porra.

“Hotels, restaurants, bars and practically every other business in Minot will benefit from having Nitro Circus Live in town,” said Porra. “Through audience research, we’ve seen that fans are blown away, saying it’s the most exciting show they’ve ever seen. We’re thrilled to bring an event that has sold out huge stadiums across the globe to these new cities.”

In January 2015, Forbes magazine included Nitro Circus in its annual list of America’s Most Promising Companies. “Things have changed so much,” said Porra. The CEO uses his experience in Scandinavia as an example, when the marketing agent for the show told him to not even bother buying television ads. With the large amount of Internet usage among youth there, it made more fiscal sense to split advertising 50/50 between television and online. “Now we spend no money in television,” Porra said. Now the company invests much more in digital assets, allowing them to “talk directly to our own fans.”

“We’re leading the way, which horrifies traditional media,” said Porra.

Nitro Circus Live has sold out arenas such as Madison Square Garden in New York and the O2 in London. More than 35,000 people attended Johannesburg’s FNB Stadium, site of the 2010 soccer World Cup final, for a 2014 show; 45,000 filled Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena, the second highest attendance of any touring act at that venue.

“The show is nothing like they’ve ever seen before,” Porra said of their fans.

Starting at $2.99/week.
