Park sales tax passes; newcomer joins school board
The second time was the charm for the Minot Park district after Minot residents voted to approve a half percent sales tax for the Minot Park District at the polls on Tuesday’s Primary election.
Minot voters shot down a prior measure seeking funding for a new turf facility in 2025, but the yes’s had it 3,307 to 2,508 for no.
The dollars brought in by the tax will be dedicated to the Park District general fund for operations and future capital improvement projects. The half percent sales tax is estimated to generate about $6.5 million a year, in tandem with a 40% property tax reduction from 38 to 26 mills.
On the Park Board side, the three candidates Perry Olson, Justin Hammer and Mike Schmitt secured their seats in an uncontested race.
While there also wasn’t a contest to be had in the Minot School Board Race, there will be a new face on the board as Matt Bianco recevied 4,096 votes. Bianco will be filling the vacancy left by Sabrinna Herrmann, who chose not to seek relection. Current School Board President Mitchell Kraft received, 4,546 votes.
