Prosecutor announces run for Ward County State’s Attorney

Assistant Ward County State’s Attorney Christopher Nelson announced he will be running for Ward County State’s attorney on Tuesday, Feb. 10.

Nelson has spent the past eight years prosecuting cases in Ward County, handling a wide range of criminal cases and cultivating strong working relationships with local law enforcement agencies and court personnel.

“I am running for State’s Attorney because Ward County deserves experienced leadership that understands this community and the serious responsibility of this office,” Nelson said. “After eight years as a prosecutor here, I know what it takes to hold offenders accountable, support victims, and apply the law fairly and consistently.”

Nelson said if elected, he would prioritize protecting public safety, holding offenders accountable, supporting crime victims and their families, maintaining strong partnerships with Minot and Ward County law enforcement; ensuring fairness, consistency, and integrity within the State’s Attorney’s office.

Nelson is the only announced candidate for the office, with current Ward County State’s Attorney Roza Larson’s January announcement she had decided not to seek re-election. Larson initially was appointed to fill a vacancy in 2009 and served in an elected position since 2010.

The Ward County State’s Attorney primary election will be held on June 9, and the general election will be held on Nov. 3.

“This position is about public trust,” Nelson said. “I am committed to serving Ward County with the same dedication and integrity I’ve brought to my work as a prosecutor.”
