A new parking lot has opened at Minot International Airport to accommodate holiday travelers.
As work continues on the new terminal, construction on one of the new parking lots is far enough along to be opened for use this winter. Airport director Andy Solsvig said more parking is needed because passenger numbers far exceed existing space.
“Everybody knows our passenger numbers have increased dramatically over the past couple of years, and while we’ve been able to deal with it inside the terminal, it’s getting to be very problematic in the parking lot,” he said.
The lot will be able to handle well over an additional 500 vehicles. It includes 560 parking stalls.
Vehicles will enter the new parking lot off of Third Street Northeast, east of the existing terminal and south of the construction area. A credit card in/out system will be in place in mid-December, but until then, travelers must enter the parking lot in front of the existing terminal, go to the gate and prepay for using the new lot. A shuttle service is available between the new lot and the existing terminal.
Travelers are encouraged to arrive at the airport two hours before flight time to allow for parking, check-in and security.
