Jan. 31, 1948-Oct. 29, 2014

Following an unexpected stroke, Jane “Janie” Allyson Jung died peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2014, at her home in Rolette. She was 66.

Janie was born Jan. 31, 1948, in Minot to her parents, the late Cletus Jung (Feb. 14, 1969) and the late Elizabeth (Garrett/Jung) Eman (June 2, 2014). Raised on the family farm near Norwich and the oldest of 10 children, Janie attended elementary school in the Surrey Public School system and graduated from Bishop Ryan High School in 1966. Graduating magna cum laude, she earned her bachelor of science in elementary education with a minor in mathematics from Dickinson State University in 1972. Visiting the homes of nearly every student she taught, Janie worked in elementary education for nearly 20 years at several schools including St. Leo’s and Little Flower elementary schools in Minot and St. Mary’s Grade School in Richardton.

She was a member of the religious community the Benedictine Sisters of Sacred Heart (Priory) Monastery in Richardton, as Sister Jane Frances Jung for 27 years. Following the Lord her entire life, in the summer of 1981, Janie pursued chaplaincy training, earning certification from the National Association of Catholic Chaplains and employment as a summer chaplain in facilities in North Dakota.

In May 1990, she earned her master’s in social work degree from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Specializing in individual, marital, family and youth counseling Janie practiced as a licensed social worker in various positions including the Milwaukee County Department of Social Services, Catholic Social Services also in Milwaukee, Home on the Range in Sentinel Butte, The Village Family Service Center in Minot, Trinity Rehab in Minot, and most recently at the Rolette Community Care Center.

Passionate about God, youth and education, Janie lived a humble life of gratitude and service throughout her entire life. Happiest surrounded by nature, family and opportunities to give back, Janie loved children (especially babies), fresh air and serving others. Until her death, she volunteered for the Rolette Community Care Center, Rolette Area Development Association, the Rolette Welcoming Committee, Sacred Heart Altar Society, Rolette County 4-H (judge), the Rolette City Library and the Rolette Horizons Community Leadership Program. She also was a member of Prairie Rose Writers Group of Rolette and her poetry was included in two anthologies: “Whisperings from the Wheatfields” and “Winter Whispers.” She was known by many throughout the community for her vibrant spirit, giving nature and engaging personality. She adored the elderly, word games, prairie roses, walking, reading, and tasteful jokes/teasing.

Janie is survived by: her brothers and sisters, Joyce (Ron) Solberg of rural Minot, Bryce Jung of Whitehouse, Ohio, Donna (Terry) Medler of Waite Park, Minn., Meredith Jung of California, Neil Jung of Miles City, Mont., Dolores Pilch of Bismarck, MaryAnn (Brad) Taft of Baltimore, and Anita Jung Reich of Glenwood, Iowa; sister-in-law, Linda Jung (wife of the late Gary Jung/May 15, 2012) of Norwich; stepsisters: Dorothy (Melvin) Christiansen, Darleen Klemp and Loretta Kunkel; three aunts, Billyann Wessling, Janey Dickinson and Marlys Young; and many cherished nieces and nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
