Ovedia Jensen

Ovedia Pearline (Johnson) Jensen, recently of Plymouth, Minn., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014, at the age 98.

She was born May 11, 1916, on the farm in Hamlet Township, Renville County, near Mohall, to August and Gunda Pauline (Johnson) Johnson.

Ovedia loved life; she was a compassionate, selfless and loving person. She was a role model to her children and grandchildren and had the unique ability to teach without telling. Above all Ovedia adored her family. She expressed her love through magic in the kitchen. Everyone looked forward to her baked goods (especially homemade breads and toffee bars) and holiday traditions, including klub.

She was preceded in death by: husband, Raymond; daughter, Margo; sons, Ramon and Curtis; a sister, Joyce, three brothers, Art, Jim, Clarence; and her daughter-in-law, Colleen.

She will be dearly missed by: sons, Rolf, of Iroquois, Ill., and Craig (Amy) of Plymouth, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Julie, of Delano, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; brothers, Melvin (Ruth) of Ogallala, Neb., and John, of Bemidji, Minn.

Ovedia attended school at Hamlet Consolidated School, Lansford, and completed high school in Mohall, graduating in 1934. After graduation Ovedia worked as a saleslady for LR Prins General Merchandise Store for five years in Mohall. She married Raymond Jensen, of Minot, June 29, 1940. She and Ray lived in Minot one year and then moved to Kenmare where she worked at Millers Jewelry from 1963 to 1979; she also worked part time at Murrays and completely retired in 1993.

Ovedia was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church, an active member of the WELCA, Lydia Circle, altar guild, taught Sunday school for a number of years and served as the superintendent. She also served on the library board, made quilts for missions, worked on Red Cross board, was a member of Chapter L, P.E.O. of Kenmare since 1957 and had been in “coffee group” for years. She treasured her weekly time with her friends.

A memorial service celebrating Ovedia’s life: will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at Summerwood in Plymouth, Minn.

A graveside service: will be in spring 2015 at Lakeview Cemetery in Kenmare with reception to follow. (Specifics will appear in spring.)
