Leo Eugene Buettner passed away Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2014. He died as a result of medical complications from a sudden illness while visiting family and friends in Minot.

Leo was born Feb. 2, 1932, in Minot, to John and Anna Buettner at Trinity Hospital. Leo was baptized March 20, 1932, at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, in Minot. He lived and worked in Minot until he went in the Army in 1954, where he served honorably as both a cook and mechanic in both Japan and the U.S. until 1956.

After leaving the Army, Leo went to work for Boeing Aerospace from 1956 to 1987. He worked on the B-52 and 707, installing parts for Minuteman missiles. He also worked on a variety of other aircraft, including the 727-757. He transferred to the Everett, Wash., location where he was a lead mechanic. Leo was awarded a 50 distinguished service award from the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers.

Leo was a Boy Scout troop leader and a 46-year member of St. Anthony’s in Renton, Wash. He loved gardening, canning and baking; cinnamon rolls were his specialty. Leo was also a longtime supporter of Friends of Youth.

Leo lived a full life, was big-hearted and generous to all with a wonderful sense of humor. Leo was loved by many and will be missed by all. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Leo is survived by: his three children; Kenneth, Teresa and Brian and five granddaughters, one grandson and one great-grandchild.

Services will be held at: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, at St. Anthony’s in Renton.
