REFLECTIONS: Bragging on God and learning to listen

On Sunday, June 11, I woke up around 3:00 in the morning with my heart beating very fast and what seemed to be very erratically as well. I got up, moved around, got a drink of water and decided to take some aspirin before I finally called 911 to get someone to help me. The ambulance crew arrived, hooked up an EKG to evaluate my heart and they determined that it was in AFib. An IV was established and they administered medication that was to encourage my heart to return to a normal rhythm. The only real result was that my blood pressure dropped too much. I was taken to the hospital ...

REFLECTIONS: The care God offers

When I was in college, I was involved in InterVarsity Christian Fellowship, a non-denominational ministry available on many college campuses. The goal of this organization is to provide opportunities for college students to learn about Christ. During the late ‘60s, while attending Moorhead State University, I served in leadership roles in that organization. REFLECTIONS: Where’s the Joy?

I’ve been reading through a lot of my past devotionals as I prepare for the publication of my second book. While reading, I became aware of the fact that quite frequently I address how to handle the challenges of life. We do have challenges and we do need to know how to approach them in a Godly fashion in order to get through them in the healthiest way possible.  However, I decided that it was past time to consider joy!  Since the Bible is my “go to” resource for the best direction on anything about how to live our lives on earth to honor God, I did some investigating. REFLECTIONS: Why should I trust Him?

When there is a life-altering decision to be made, or an event so full of unknowns that it feels like we’re walking through a jungle being stalked by wild animals, we need to know that someone understands. When there is an ocean of fear and sorrow that feels like quicksand, we need to know that there is someone else who has experienced trials as well. Jesus is the one. He himself was “…despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering and familiar with pain,” (Isaiah 53:3 NIV). Let’s look at more reasons we can trust Him. First, we learn in Psalm 139 that God is ...
