Rabbi Yonah Grossman leads with readings and songs after lighting the Hanukkah menorah in Dakota Square Mall Wednesday evening, the fourth night of the eight-day Festival of Lights. People gathered around to sample traditional refreshments, participate in the ceremony and children’s activities and receive candles to take home. The Chabad Jewish Center of North Dakota, Fargo, provided the oversized menorah. This year’s public menorah lighting carried added significance as Jewish communities worldwide celebrate the Year of Hakhel or “Gathering,” a once-in-seven-years Jewish tradition.
