The Badlands Bass Bandits have unveiled an “ice series” for December through March. All fishing will be done from boats on Nelson Lake, a power plant lake that has open water throughout the winter months due to warm water being discharged from the plant.

Nelson Lake is located near Center and is known as a largemouth bass fishery. The state record largemouth was pulled from Nelson Lake in February, 1983 by Leon Rixen of Minot. The bass weighed 8 lbs., 8 oz. and measured 22 inches in length.

Dates for the Nelson Lake derbies are Dec. 5, 2020; Jan. 9, Feb. 6 and March 6, 2021. Take-off will be at 9 a.m. and fishing will conclude at 3 p.m. All events will be a catch, measure and release format.
