This boat washed up along a shoreline in the Florida Keys has the name of the city of Nuevitas, Cuba inscribed on the stern. How or why it was abandoned is not known but oftentimes such boats carry Cubans fleeing that island nation.
While many boats that wash ashore in the Keys are not suited for ocean travel, this boat appears to be more substantial than most.
Nuevitas has a population of about 40,000. The photograph was taken June 8.
