Members from the Domestic Violence Crisis Center and PATH Inc. gathered at the Minot PATH Inc. office for the Giving Hearts Day chili cook-off on Thursday afternoon.

For at least the last three years, the chili cook-off has taken place. Jill McDonald, the current director of the DVCC, and Tanya Hennix, the Independent Living coordinator with PATH Inc., organized the event.

Six crockpots filled with chili were entered for the contest. Some mixes were mild and others more on the spicy side. Entry number five was the only homemade vegetarian chili with diced fresh jalepenos for added heat, made by McDonald.

Aaron Moss with the Minot Police Department was also in attendance, among many others. There were two free will offering boxes in the room, one on each side. One was for cash and the other one was set up to take card payments.

Fourteen nonprofit organizations collaborated to make Giving Hearts Day a success in Minot, including PATH Inc., Domestic Violence Crisis Center and Prairie Grit.
