In 1922, Trinity Health hospital was established by Lutheran pastors seeking to support the healthcare needs of their parish. For over a century, Trinity Hospital and the Trinity Health Foundation have served the region, today expanding their reach to cover 23 counties.
Dusty Zimmerman, director of the Trinity Health Foundation, said she began working with the organization because the health of her home community is important to her, noting that she wanted to "help others and give back."
This October marks Zimmerman's fifth year with the foundation.
As director, Zimmerman manages organizational operations, works with donors to ensure funds align with their passions, collaborates with external organizations to request patient aid, identifies strategic needs, and oversees the foundation's signature events.
The Trinity Health Foundation recently held its ninth annual "Fuel the Fight" event, sponsored by Arco gas stations. The initiative assists Trinity Health CancerCare patients by providing fuel for travel to and from treatment.
In March, the foundation hosted its fifth annual gala, which selects a dedicated cause for its proceeds each year. The 2027 gala will benefit behavioral health services. The organization's third major fundraiser, the Building Hope Women's Golf event held every June, raises funds to support cancer patients.
In addition to signature events, the foundation manages several endowments and funds:
- Capital Fund: Assists in building facilities and purchasing major equipment.
- Parkinson's Exercise Fund: Covers the cost of specialized exercise programs to help Parkinson's patients maintain physical health.
- Ambulance Fund: Helps finance the maintenance and replacement of emergency vehicles.
- CancerCare and Facility Funds: Provide dedicated support for patient care and medical equipment.
"Success of the foundation is completely reliant on donors," Zimmerman said, emphasizing that individual and organizational contributions directly allow the foundation to provide for the community.
