The Minot Commission on Aging, established in 1973 by Mayor Chester Reiten, assists local senior citizens through meal services, socialization environments and health maintenance, according to Roger Reich, MCA director.
The organization continues its collaboration with the current mayor and members of the Minot City Council.
Based at the Parker Senior Center in downtown Minot, one of the Minot Commission on Aging's most important and well known services is Meals on Wheels, which delivers nutritious meals to senior citizens' homes. Meals are funded through donations so no senior is denied service due to an inability to pay. Residents are greeted by a delivery person who also performs a quick wellness check upon arrival. Hot meals are distributed Monday through Friday, with frozen meals provided for weekends.
Socialization is fostered through the congregate meals program, where seniors gather to share a meal and participate in educational classes. Congregate meals are served Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
The organization also runs a health maintenance program, allowing seniors to consult with a registered nurse regarding their health concerns.
Reich said the health maintenance program provides a "slower, easier environment" for seniors to ask healthcare providers questions and check on their physical health.
The Minot Commission on Aging serves Minot, Sawyer, Carpio, Bowbells, Towner, Granville, Mohall, Westhope, Deering, Kenmare, Rugby, Bottineau, Silva, Surrey and Willow City.
