MEDORA - The "Medora Musical" reached a new milestone Aug. 9-16, welcoming 12,572 guests during the week -- the largest single-week attendance in the show's history.
The record-breaking week added to a historic 2026 season for the "Medora Musical," presented in the Burning Hills Amphitheatre for its 62nd season.
The milestone came during a landmark year for Medora, with the opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library offering visitors from across the country another reason to explore the historic Badlands town.
"This has been a historic year for Medora, and reaching this milestone is a meaningful moment for our organization and our community," said Clarence Sitter, CEO of the Theodore Roosevelt Medora Foundation (TRMF). "We're grateful to everyone who has helped make this season so memorable, from our performers and staff to the thousands of guests who continue to choose Medora."
The "Medora Musical" continued its 2026 season through Sept. 12.
"It's been an incredible season for the 'Medora Musical,' and while the show comes to a close in September, there's still a lot to look forward to in Medora," said Brock White, marketing director for TRMF. "Fall brings a whole different feel to Medora, and it's a beautiful time to be here."
As summer gives way to fall, the Badlands begin to take on new colors, cooler temperatures, and a slower pace. Visitors can take in Medora's fall scenery while spending a day on the golf course, exploring the trails or enjoying live entertainment, offering a chance to experience the community in a different season.
About TRMF
The TRMF is a public non-profit organization that was formed in 1986 by a multi-million dollar gift from Harold Schafer and his family - most famously known as the founders of the Gold Seal Company, the maker of Mr. Bubble, Glass Wax and other nationally-known household products.
For Schafer, the beauty and history of Medora and the Badlands were just too much to let disappear with the sands of time, so he made it his life's work to save it for generations to come. He began his labor of love in 1962, and revitalized what is known today as the "Medora Musical" in 1965. Schafer continued giving to the historic cow town frequented by Theodore Roosevelt, the Marquis de Mores and many a rough-and-tumble westerner until his passing in 2001.
Today, TRMF strives to accomplish its mission to preserve, present and serve all that Schaver loved about Medora by operating history, education and entertainment businesses that allow the traveling public to fully enjoy the beautiful North Dakota Badlands.
Through the contributions and teamwork of a board of directors, a full-time staff of 85, 320 seasonal employees, more than 600 seasonal volunteers and financial backing from generous supporters, TRMF connects people to Medora for positive, life-changing experiences.
