Bring a treasure, Buy a treasure: Back Door Treasure now open

Jen Brodal/MDN Lana Flaten and daughter Michelle Waldbillig are shown at Minot’s newest thrift store, Back Door Treasures, located downtown on the corner of First Avenue and Second Street Southeast.

Back Door Treasures, a thrift store located in downtown Minot at 105 1st St. SE, opens today. Lana Flaten and daughter Michelle Waldbillig, treasure hunters, are organized and ready to receive customers and more donations.

“With such a big space, we have been able to categorize items for separate rooms and nooks. It is nice and spacious and clean,” said Flaten

“We plan to have food ready in the back daily and arrangements for those who want to purchase something and can’t quite afford it. We will put them to work and they can earn the item,” said Waldbillig. The mother and daughter duo are not afraid of hard work. Formerly from the Stanley area, Flaten has owned two restaurants and managed two thrift stores prior.

Hoping to make a success of Back Door Treasures, leasing the space, the women plan to provide quarterly assistance to local homeless shelters, along with elderly and veteran assistance.

“With the prices of groceries, who is thinking about the elderly living on very little income?” Flaten said.

Waldbillig and Flaten are looking for more donations to prepare for holiday shopping, and at the top of that list is baby and children’s clothing and toys.

The store is equipped for all donations, large and small, which can be brought to the front door, back door or picked up for free. The store also will deliver treasures for $20.

The shop is open 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily. To schedule a delivery, pick up or get more information, call 837-1819.
