Kraus-Anderson celebrates completion of new Scheels

Siubmitted Photo Fuzziwig’s Candy Factory is part of the new look for Scheels at Dakota Square Mall, offering homemade fudge and other delights.

The new SCHEELS store at Dakota Square Mall opened to the public in July, after months of building and renovating by Minneapolis contractor Kraus-Anderson.

The new 110,000 square-foot sporting goods store was designed by R.L. Engebretson Architecture, and it cost $20.66 million to combine the two separate SCHEELS stores in the mall and incorporate them with an 85,000-square-foot remodel of the former Sears store. An additional 25,000 square feet was utilized to include a conference room, classroom and offices.

This larger retail space expands the selection of SCHEELS’ sports gear, clothing and shoes, with dozens of shops specializing in biking, fishing, skiing, hunting, archery, canoeing and kayaking, exercising and fitness, as well as a world-class golf shop and simulator.

Customers also will find an expanded taxidermy collection and rollerball and arcade games for the shopping averse. Shoppers at the new SCHEELS can even stop at Ginna’s Cafe for gourmet soups, sandwiches, coffee and other specialty drinks. For something sweeter, Fuzziwig’s Candy Factory features homemade fudge, among many other treats.

SCHEELS was founded in 1902 and has served Minot since 1974, when it originally opened as a hardware store.
