Minot’s Kmart store scheduled to close July 17

One of Minot’s long-time businesses will be calling it quits soon. Kmart, which opened in the early 1970’s, is set to close its doors July 17. The business is located in a 108,110-square-foot building on 20th Avenue Southeast.

Last November the Kmart building was listed for lease by SRS Real Estate Partners of Denver, Colorado. According to the listing, the company was proposing to redevelop and retenant the property to accommodate at least three businesses. Minot’s Kmart building is no longer listed by SRS, which acquired the property in 2015 from Sears Holdings.

Sears, the parent company of K-Mart, has seen closure of hundreds of stores throughout the country, including one at Dakota Square Mall of Minot. Bismarck’s Kmart closed its doors this past February, leaving Minot’s Kmart the only such store in the state.

The Sears website is listing seasonal, part-time job openings for cashiers, hardlines and apparel at the Minot Kmart with the stipulation that the store will be closing.

Starting at $2.99/week.
