Community Athlete of the Season award announced

United Community Bank and Scheels have teamed up to offer a new program, Community Athlete of the Season.

The program encourages coaches to nominate athletes whom they feel are deserving based on exemplary sportsmanship, overcoming of hurdles, or for going above and beyond.

“Our community is full of athletes who shine, not just through athleticism, but through attitude and sportsmanship. We decided it’s time that they be publicly recognized,” said Jennifer Hubrig, United Community Bank.

This program is targeted not only at school sports but also organizations such as Prairie Grit, Special Olympics, Minot Swim Club, rodeo clubs, etc. and is open to athletes ages 5-19 in a 60 mile radius of Minot.

“Our goal is to bring positive, uplifting stories within our youth sports community to the spotlight. We hope the incredible attitudes of the featured young athletes in our community become contagious,” said Cole Krueger, Scheels.

Nominations can be turned in at any time at United Community Bank or Scheels. Athletes must be nominated by a coach or an employee of an athletic program within 60 miles of Minot. Qualifying athletes must be between the ages of 5-19. One nominated athlete will be recognized each quarter within the following dates: September 1- November 30, December 1 – February 28, March 1 – May 31 and June 1 – August 30.

Each awarded athlete will receive $1,000 donated by United Community Bank to the athletic program/sport in which they are recognized. In addition, Scheels will provide $500 in gift cards to the athlete and program ($250 to each). The athlete will also receive a professional photo shoot and be displayed within the Minot Scheels and United Community Bank locations.
