Rugby native named director of Economic Development & Finance

BISMARCK – The North Dakota Department of Commerce has named Rugby native John Schneider as Economic Development & Finance Division director.

Schneider will lead the state’s economic development strategy and assist in coordinating the state’s economic development resources to attract, retain and expand wealth. Schneider has served as interim director since January. He replaced past director Paul Lucy.

“John’s extensive experience in value-added agriculture and unmanned systems will be a great asset for the state of North Dakota,” said Commerce Commissioner Jay Schuler. “His extensive knowledge and experience will help North Dakota to continue to offer a business-friendly environment by creating growth and enhancing the quality of life for our citizens.”

Schneider previously served as executive director for the Agricultural Products Utilization Commission over the last 16 years. He served as the interim state director of the Small Business Development Centers, and was the executive director for Harvey Area Economic Development. Schneider earned a bachelor of science degree in economics and business administration from North Dakota State University.

“North Dakota’s business climate has gained a reputation for supporting emerging businesses, entrepreneurs and expansions,” said Schneider. “I look forward to continuing this tradition and provide an enhanced environment for North Dakota-based businesses that strengthens their competitive position in the global marketplace. Our success in recent years is only the tip-of-the-iceberg of things to come for our state.”
