The North Dakota String Teachers Association is sponsoring the 44th annual State Orchestra festival at Minot North High School on Friday, Oct. 2, and Saturday, Oct. 3.
This annual event is a sight-reading festival that draws orchestra students from around the state. There will be 170 students on stage. The students will see the music for the first time at the initial rehearsal on Friday afternoon and perform in concert on Saturday at 2 p.m. The concert is free and open to the public.
This year's guest conductor is director of the Minot Symphony Orchestra, Efrain Amaya, from Minot State University, who will be conducting at the festival for the first time. He will be joined by other string faculty from Minot State University, Dr. Yestyn Griffith and Dr. Erik Anderson.
High schools involved are Minot High, Minot North, Bismarck High, Bismarck Legacy, Bismarck Century, Devils Lake, Fargo North, Fargo South, Fargo Davies, West Fargo, West Fargo Sheyenne, West Fargo Horace, Williston, Jamestown and Lincoln from Thief River Falls, Minn.
The site manager is Kari Moen, high school orchestra director for Minot Public Schools, and the festival manager is Jenny Michalenko, orchestra director for Jamestown Public Schools.
