The Minot High Playmakers will present the musical "Annie," on Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 29-31, at Minot High School in the Arvel Graving Theatre.
Based on the comic strip by Harold Gray, Annie is the story of a young orphan girl who captures everyone’s hearts despite living a "next-to-nothing" life in 1930s’ New York City as she searches for her parents. Annie lives in an orphanage run by bitter Miss Hannigan until the billionaire Oliver Warbucks takes Annie in for the holidays but ends up wanting to adopt her. Written by Thomas Meehan, the play features music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Martin Charnin.
The musical features classic songs such "Tomorrow," "Hard Knock Life" and "Easy Street."
Doors open to the public at 7 p.m., and performances start at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. On Saturday, doors will be open to the public at 12:30 p.m., and the performance starts at 1 p.m. Tickets are sold at the door.
"Everyone has their own special moments throughout the show. There are bits of real history in it, such as the Hoovervilles, and the costumes are made to look like they’re from that time period," said Brooke Leiss, a senior at Minot High who plays Annie.
Ackenna Hoffman is a junior at Minot High who plays Miss Hannigan. Her favorite part of the show, she said, is “when the orphans do 'Hard Knock Life.' They're all so cute."
