The Minot Symphony Orchestra has unveiled a new downtown mural in celebration of its 100th season.

“Magic Symphony,” painted over Labor Day weekend by local artist Max Patzner, features colorful depictions of musical instruments and symbols meant to capture the joy and energy of music.

The mural, located on the south side of the Kemper Building at Main Street and First Avenue Southeast, offers interactive photo opportunities, including spots designed to make it look as if visitors are playing a piano, drum or trumpet.

“The mural was made possible thanks to the generosity of Wayne and Melinda Howe, who donated the building surface for this vibrant artwork,” said Ellen Fenner, executive director of the Minot Symphony Orchestra, in a news release. “Max’s design brings the spirit of music to life in a way that’s both visually stunning and interactive. It’s a celebration of our community, our history and the power of music to bring people together.”

The symphony invites the community to visit the mural and take photos to share on social media using #mso100.

The orchestra’s opening concert will take place Saturday, Oct. 4, at Minot State University’s Ann Nicole Nelson Hall, featuring world-renowned pianist Frederic Chiu.

Starting at $2.99/week.
