Art event planned at Fort Mandan July 26
WASHBURN — Fort Mandan State Historic Site near Washburn is hosting “Watercolor En Plein Air” on Saturday, July 26, from 1-2 p.m. at the Fort Mandan Seaman Shelter. The event is free, and all ages are welcome.
En plein air is a French expression meaning “out in the air.” The event will enable artists to select a location on the grounds and begin painting, incorporating techniques including layering, playing with light, and drawing inspiration from nature, according to information from Fort Mandan. All supplies will be provided. Staff will be available to provide assistance.
Leashed dogs are welcome inside the visitor center alongside their owners.
Fort Mandan State Historic Site and the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center are managed by the State Historical Society of North Dakota. Summer hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Sept. 30.
