During the evening of Monday, May 19, four critically endangered Amur tiger cubs were born at the Roosevelt Park Zoo in Minot.
The tiger cubs are the second litter born at the zoo to mother Zoya and the first offspring to father, Finn, according to zoo information.
“These cubs represent a major, positive step forward to our efforts to support the global population of Amur tigers,” said Roosevelt Park Zoo Director Dr. Logan Wood. “Having four thriving cubs and a mother who is successfully raising them, is a true testament to the dedication and care provided to the animals by our incredible team here at Roosevelt Park Zoo.” The cubs and mother are currently not on exhibit at the zoo’s Amur tiger exhibit while they bond and gain their strength. As the cubs’ eyes open and their legs begin to get stronger, the cubs will start exploring more and will be allowed access to the exhibit’s day room equipped with heated floors that provide added comfort for the young cubs. Finn, the cubs’ father, can still be seen outside and is being allowed access to all three yards.
The zoo plans to keep the community informed as the cubs grow and start exploring via its social media page and other news stories.
The four cubs will make their official public debut in the Amur Tiger River Valley outdoor exhibit on World Tiger Day, Tuesday, July 29. On this date, the zoo plans to announce the names of the cubs, provide multiple opportunities for guests to learn more about how they can help save the largest living cat in the world, along with other fun activities for families.

The zoo also is announcing that this July, a children’s book titled “A Family For Zoya: The True Story of an Endangered Cub” written by Debra Kim Wolf, will make its world debut. This true story follows Zoya’s life from birth at the Philadelphia Zoo to adoption by a family of Sumatran tigers at the Oklahoma City Zoo, before settling down in Minot to start a family of her own. The book will be available in the zoo’s gift shop.
