Sweater dancers part of Norsk Hostfest fun

Ben Pifher/MDN Art Bjorngjeld, right, plays accordion for a group of dancers at Norsk Hostfest in Minot on Thursday. Bjorngjeld and Beth and Frederick Isaac have been performing at the event for a number of years.

A group of children meander from place to place, performing a dance called the sweater dance at Norsk Hostfest in Minot.

Beth Isaac is the group’s center singer and dancer who performs with her husband, Frederick Isaac. The children range in ages from 3 to 16.

“I’m in the middle, and I sing and dance with the kids so the little ones know what is going on,” said Beth Isaac. She said Art Bjorngjeld plays accordion for the group.

The group formed a line, with a chaperone and accordion player escort through the knots of people that form throughout the event. Then they went place to place, performing a short series of three dances, taking about 5 minutes at each stop.

The group was taught the dances by Rinat Mouzafarov, a ballet instructor in Minot, who is originally from Russia. They dance to sell sweaters and promote the ballet.

The Isaacs perform at Hostfest each year and go to local schools in the area the week before Hostfest as well to teach dances to the children.

Starting at $2.99/week.
