Minot students to perform Night of One Act Plays

Submitted Photo Range Parker, played by Xavier Lundmark, explains the danger to Susan, played by May Nash, in “Attack! Of the Killer Man from the Sun!” The play will be presented tonight as part of Night of One Act Plays at Minot High School.

Minot High School and Minot North are competing in the state one-act play competition on Monday, April 8, and Tuesday, April 9. Tonight at 7:30 p.m. at Minot High School is a sneak peek of two plays.

Minot High School is presenting a parody of old science fiction monster movies with the play “Attack! of the Killer Man from the Sun!” directed by Chad Gifford.

“This melodramatic comedy tells the story of a group of scientists who are trying to stop the sun from destroying the planet, when they are interrupted by a pair of aliens disguised as humans, a nefarious creature, and the killer man from the sun as well,” Gifford said. “Minot North will be presenting ‘Squad Goals,’ directed by Aaron Michels. The play follows the crackpot coaches of a ragtag basketball team who are looking for one more player, who may not be the most talented, but should have the most heart.”

The Night of One Act Plays will be a first for Magic City senior Cherry Weisse. After spending four years in theater, Weisse found her passion in light design and programming.

“Theater for me is a huge passion of mine and I’ve been doing it for four years now,” Weisse said. “I started out with acting as the newscaster in ‘Clue,’ then moved onto doing lights and have been doing it ever since.”

“Theater has allowed me to find my passion for designing and programming lights for theaters and it has actually has influenced me to go and pursue a career in it after I graduate this year,” Weisse said.
