Canadian Pacific Railway’s annual Holiday Train returns to Minot this year after a two-year break. The Holiday Train will be in downtown Minot at the Main Street crossing at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Entertainers Alan Doyle and Kelly Prescott will perform at 6:45 p.m., and the train will depart at 7:15 p.m.
Doyle, Newfoundland, is an actor, television star and singer in the folk-rock band Great Big Sea. Prescott, Ottawa, has toured North America, performed at the Grand Ole Opry and with bands such as Matchbox 20, and her former family band, the Claytons.
“It’s a big thing in more than one way,” said Mac McLeod, Minot Area Homeless Coalition executive director. The holiday train is not only amazing to look at and marvel over how it stays decorated flying down the tracks, but also for more than 20 years, the Holiday Train has been raising awareness about food insecurities.
“Come on down and bear the cold to bring awareness and donations to the Salvation Army donation station downtown,” McLeod said. Santa will be available for free photo opportunities and to hand out candy canes to the kids. Concessions with free will hot dogs and hot chocolate will be set up downtown.
Some other food options will be the Hitchin Kitchen food truck. Prairie Sky Breads at 3 1st St. SE, will have hot chocolate flights and pizza by the slice, ready to take out or eat in while warming up before or after the downtown event.
