MSU Summer Theatre concludes season with ‘Sound of Music’
Submitted Photo Director April Hubbard can be seen directing the entire cast at rehearsal.
The Minot State University Summer Theatre will wrap up season 57 with its fourth and final show of the summer.
“Sound of Music” will open today. Performances run today through Sunday and Aug. 2-5. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show will start each night at 8:30 p.m. People can call 858-3228 to purchase tickets or order online at msusummertheatre.universitytickets.com
The popular musical tells the story of a young governess who brings music and joy back to a broken family in pre-World War II Austria, only to face danger and intrigue as the Nazis gain power. The last time the MSU Summer Theatre put on Sound of Music was in 2001.
This production is directed by April Hubbard. Her husband, Bob Hubbard, is playing the lead role of Capt. Georg Von Trapp.
“It’s fun but a little scary to direct your spouse, but Bob has been a good sport and taken all his direction well. That has made this show unique and special for me,” said April Hubbard.
Faith Klick plays Maria, the governess female lead.
“And, of course, working with Faith as Maria. Her character is so spunky and delightful the audience will love her character,” Hubbard said.
This is Klick’s second summer with the company and her first lead role with the company. Audience members may recognize her as Mrs. Gloop from season 56’s production of “Willy Wonka.”
