Music camp hosts concert series
DUNSEITH — The International Music Camp announces the 2022 Festival of the Arts concert series in the International Peace Garden on Fridays through July. All events begin at 8 p.m. and are free and open to the public except where noted.
Today, fiddlers Kasey & Evie will perform. The concert is $10 or free to Old Time Fiddle Workshop participants and begins at 7 p.m. Kasey & Evie hails from eastern Tennessee and is comprised of North Dakota native Evie Andrus and Kasey Moore.
On June 24, the 188th Army Band will perform. The 188th Army Band’s lineage begins in 1887 in Valley City, Dakota Territory, as the 1st Dakota Infantry Band. The band has been based in Fargo since 1959.
On July 1, the International Brass Quintet will perform a recital at the Burdick Center for the Performing Arts. IMC’s in-residence quintet will perform a variety of repertoire from Baroque to Jazz. The group is made up of Cory Driscoll, University of North Dakota, and Byron Ward, University of Minnesota-Morris, trumpet; Arlene Shiplett, Saskatoon Symphony, french horn; Joel Pugh, University of North Dakota, trombone; and Jacob Grewe, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, tuba.
On July 8, the Old-Fashioned Band Concert and Ice Cream Social at the Masonic Auditorium will feature the International Music Camp staff and faculty band performing a broad range of works including marches, classic works for band, popular melodies and more. Ice cream is sponsored by Pride Dairies of Bottineau.
On July 15, Del Barber will perform. With nominations for JUNO Awards, Western Canadian Music Awards, and Canadian Folk Music Awards, Del Barber has shaped the folk music canon in Canada with five critically acclaimed studio albums under his belt. His new album “Easy Keeper,” recorded in a cabin during the pandemic, has received critical acclaim from Rolling Stone Magazine and The Bluegrass Situation.
On July 22, the International Music Camp Jazz faculty will present an evening of jazz at the Masonic Auditorium. Combos, vocals, solos and bands of all varieties will be on display.
On Friday and Saturday, July 29 and 30, the Festival of Arts series draws to a close with back-to-back performances by Duo Cantabile. Duo Cantabile was formed in 2012 by cellist Simona Barbu and pianist Nariaki Sugiura, two musicians and university professors in Grand Forks who have traveled extensively and given performances, clinics, lectures and master classes at prestigious institutions around the world.
