Members of the Thor Lodge Sons of Norway walked around the Scandinavian Heritage Park on Tuesday, carrying tiny flags in honor of Norway’s Constitution Day. Syttende Mai celebrates the signing of the Norwegian Constitution on May 17, 1814.

Syttende Mai, or 17th of May, festivities have been a regular event for members of the association for over a decade, who enjoy waving flags and singing the Norwegian national anthem as they march in the parade.

“Anybody can join us,” said Martha Elliott, secretary of the Sons of Norway Thor Lodge.

Last year the group was joined by visitors from Las Vegas who were of Norwegian heritage and wanted to join in the fun.

After the parade, the group planned to gather for a picnic at the park.

The Scandinavian Heritage Park, located at 1020 S. Broadway, includes statues of Scandinavians such as Hans Christian Andersen and a 25-foot Dala horse and the Gol Stave Church Museum. It also includes picnic tables, a walking path, and a water feature. All five Nordic countries are represented at the park.
