Old-time fiddle weekend set at music camp

DUNSEITH — The International Old-Time Fiddle Workshop and Contest are scheduled for June 9-11 at the International Music Camp, north of Dunseith.

The workshop will be held on Thursday and Friday with a concert on Friday evening. The Friday concert this year will feature Kasey & Evie.

Minot native Evie Andrus has been performing since she was 6 years old. Her family band, Family Ties, toured North Dakota and Canada throughout her high school years. Andrus is a graduate of the East Tennessee State University Bluegrass, Old Time and County Music Program. After college she worked as a performer at the Hatfield and McCoy Dinner Feud. Andrus released an album of original tunes in May 2022, “Evie’s Great Adventure.”

Kasey Moore has been playing fiddle since she was 4 and has experience beyond her years. As a member of The Alex Leach Band, she is on the forefront of cutting-edge bluegrass and folk. Moore can often be seen performing around the Norris area of East Tennessee with many local groups. Together Andrus and Moore have a duo record they put out in June 2022, which features some twin fiddling as well as some old bluegrass standards with a twist.

Workshop instructors include: Eric Christopher, fiddle; Shelby Huston, fiddle; Jimmy Tengesdal, fiddle; Jane Cory, fiddle; Anthony Ihring, 5-string banjo; Clint Birtzer, guitar; and Rich Casey, bass.

The contest is on Saturday, June 11. Some of the best fiddlers around the region, on both sides of the border, will compete for cash prizes.

Admission is $12 for audience members and $25 for contestants.
