Residents of Eastwood Park in Minot were putting up outdoor Christmas decorations or adding the finishing touches to them this past Saturday.

Some residents already had their outdoor Christmas displays and lighting in place.

For the first time since prior to the 2011 flood, residents of this neighborhood in southeast Minot will be holding the formerly traditional Eastwood Park Holiday Tour of Lights.

The event is set for Sunday, Dec. 19, from 6-9 p.m.

Jordan Pederson, event coordinator and a resident of Eastwood Park, said 60-plus homes will be decorated for the event.

The tour will also benefit two local organizations.

“We are so happy to partner with the Domestic Violence Crisis Center and Souris Valley Animal Shelter,” Pederson said.

She said the Eastwood Park Holiday Tour of Lights is free of charge “but we encourage each vehicle to bring either a non-perishable food item to benefit the Domestic Violence Crisis Center or an item or cash donation to benefit the Souris Valley Animal Shelter. A requested item list from the animal shelter is posted on the Eastwood Park Holiday Tour of Lights & Donation Drive Facebook page.

Volunteers will be at each entrance of Eastwood Park to collect the items, Pederson said.

She said St. Peter’s Orthodox Church on Sixth Street southeast will be open and have hotdogs, chips, baked goods and refreshments available for a freewill offering.

Berean Baptist Church on First Avenue southeast will have entertainment, Pederson said. The entertainment tentatively includes Our Redeemer’s Church hand bell choir from 6-6:30 p.m.; piano soloist; Sunnyside School carol sing by 2nd-5th graders at 7 p.m.; and possibly more piano.

Santa Claus (Kenneth Gillespie, an Eastwood Park resident) will be available at his home where people can take photos with him.

If the weather is nice, Pederson said, people might want to walk through the area.

“We’re encouraging people if they want to park in the neighborhood to park on the east side of the streets,” she said.
