Minot Men’s Winter Refuge to host two fun run, trap shoot on same day

Men’s Winter Refuge fundraisers

Run, walk, crawl, or swing on a clay pigeon. All will be possible this Saturday at the Minot Gun Club as the Minot Area Men’s Winter Refuge hosts a combination of fundraising events.

“Basically, it’s two fundraisers on the same day at the same location,” said Mike Zimmer, executive directors, Men’s Winter Refuge. “We didn’t hold it last year because of COVID, but this year we are bringing back the trap shoot. A lot of volunteers at the shelter are members of the Minot Gun Club.”

The first fundraising event of the day won’t be at the trapshooting line.

“We’ll be doing an off-road 5K around the grounds at the Gun Club,” said Katie Ramsdell, board member, Men’s Winter Refuge. “We’ll have some obstacles in the course to kind of make our race stick out from others in Minot. We are trying to make this our biggest fundraising event of the year.”

In addition to the 5K there’s other options available to involve all members of a family.

“There’s also a youth run of one-mile, a diaper dash over a very short distance, and a toddler trot of 400 meters,” said Ramsdell. “We’re trying to incorporate something for everybody in the community.”

“It should be fun. It’s a beautiful property with lots of acreage,” added Zimmer. “There will be tee-shirts for everyone and a free lunch inside the clubhouse. Anyone that wants to come out can do so.”

Registration for the 5K will begin at 8 a.m. The kid’s run is scheduled to start at 8:45 and the 5K run/walk at 9 a.m. The “Shoot for the Shelter” trapshooting event begins with registration and 10 a.m. and shooting to start about 11 a.m.

The Minot Gun Club is located north of Minot at 1331 62nd Ave. NE.
