Minot woman publishes book of stories in rhyme

Nancy Pietsch of Minot has always loved to jot down stories, but she only just published her first book this year.

Her book, “Alabaster,” contains Pietsch’s poems or “stories in rhyme” with universal themes that will resonate with many types of readers: aging, friendship, how hard it is to stop smoking, musings on why people wear sunglasses on a hazy day or a fanciful thought about how fairies might have visited a beautiful garden.

“They’re all different,” said Pietsch, who draws inspiration from the things she sees and hears.

She wrote down her thoughts before an eclipse and when she read a news story about hurricanes that were about to strike.

One of the pieces is based on the day her little sister lost her money at the State Fair.

Pietsch said a little neighbor girl was rapt when she read the story about State Fair.

“She said, ‘I love that story!'” said Pietsch.

She likes that her words appeal to different generations of readers.

She decided to try to have her writing published in 2018 and was pleased when Fulton Books notified her that it was interested in publishing her book.

The book was published this year and and is available locally at Barnes and Noble and Main Street Books and also online at Amazon.com

Pietsch, whose husband passed away seven years ago, is retired and has two children and four grandchildren. She lives in close proximity to some of her family and, when she isn’t writing, also enjoys growing flowers in the garden at her rural home.
