Arts council to host statewide online event

North Dakota Council on the Arts, in collaboration with the Main Street ND Summit 2020, will host its biennial Statewide Arts Convening online on Oct. 6 and 7.

The convening will feature programs focused on Building Resilient Communities and will bring local artists, educators, art organizations and community members together online. The Statewide Arts Convening is hosting two keynote speakers: Stephen A. Goldsmith, an Oregon artist and recent executive director of the Center for the Living City, an organization that invites creative solutions to community challenges, as well as the founder of Artspace Utah, a nonprofit developing affordable live-work space for creatives; and Jay Salinas, an artist, farmer and co-founder of Wormfarm Institute in Wisconsin, an evolving laboratory of the arts and ecology and fertile ground for creative work.

Several other guest speakers will include Kim Konikow, NDCA; Mindi Schmitz, Jamestown Arts Center; Laurel Reuter, North Dakota Museum of Art; Karen Ehrens, health and nutrition consultant; Dawn Mandt, Red River Regional Council; Thomas Nash, New Town city councilman; and William Panos, N.D. Department of Transportation.

Featured special guests include virtual musical performances by Jessie Veeder and Chuck Suchy, North Dakota’s official State Troubadour, along with virtual art-making tutorials by painter Nicole Gagner.

Registration are required and the $20 tickets can be purchased at www.eventbrite.com/e/main-street-summit-tickets-112985005192.
