Find new ways to solve problems

Discovery Center brings back Inventor’s Camp Saturday

The Magic City Discovery Center is holding its second annual Inventor’s Camp on Saturday. Liz Weeks, the education and outreach director, said the kids who attended the first camp had so much fun that they wanted to do another.

In the time allotted, children who attend will use collected recyclables to create a new invention to solve a problem they are given. If the invention does not work for its intended purpose, it must be redesigned and recreated until it accomplishes the goal. Glue, tape and other fasteners will be available to piece together the items.

Last year, 19 kids attended and Weeks said she hopes to have the same number this time, as well.

Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM) are the main focuses of MCDC, giving kids in the community the chance to explore, experiment and have fun at their pop-up events they hold around Minot. Some children may struggle with one or more of those subjects. MCDC helps them find fun ways to engage in those tricky subjects and perhaps learn to enjoy what they previously did not understand.

The Inventor’s Camp will be held in Room 104 of Old Main on the Minot State University campus from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday. To register, visit www.magiccitydiscoverycenter.com/camp.
